stopongreenI am so fucking getting sick of FFXIV drama that shouldn't be drama.
So I helped our FC's discord get re-organized because people were just jamming topics that can be its own channel such as films/movies/books/other games etc. I also added things like a wol-lore channel if people wanted to share headcanons.
I've been hoping to get more people to join the FC but understandably not only are we in the JP server, but in an English speaking FC and in Ultima which is while not the lowest in population/activity, its certainly not the highest. So my next thing is to at least get the discord a little more livelier and I even invited some irl friends who at least know of/played the game even if they're not in the FC/same server and it worked people are getting to know people and share non-ffxiv topics too. So I'm thinking hey lets try to get more people in the discord at least.
My friend who has been the new owner was reluctant to share the discord link with people since he wants it all to be people we meet in the game first. But in the same breath he admitted that a smaller populated/lower activity server will get little to no traction and he never wanted the FC to become "big".
I was like, what do you even mean by big?? To me I would be over the moon just to have at least 1 more active if not 2 more people. He also said he never intended the discord to be a "place of discussion" which I have NO FUCKING IDEA what he means by that because he also inherited the discord from a member who made it casually for friends to meet up and chat or talk about other things. Ie he has NO IDEA what happened in the discord EVEN BEFORE I did any re-organization of channels and topics. He said he even was taken aback when I added a wol-lore channel. I was like thats why I created a mod-only channel?? But then he said the discord currently is overwhelming for him and I get your mileage may vary but then it begs the question, why do you care what fucking happens in the discord if you're BARELY IN IT.
And I get you're mileage may vary but tbh the "activity" in this discord is so baby compared to other communities. That and mute buttons exist. It just got increasingly more frustrating to discuss the discord with him because he clearly never saw how it was used before and doesn't even know the name of it. He just thought it was named after the FC when its "FC + Friends".
In the end, it is "his FC" and I get he wants it a certain way. The certain way being that people I guess only use the discord maybe and talk and organize gatherings only in the game????

The people who used the discord definitely were using it to talk about other games????? And he was like oh really? So he doesn't even know how people were using it before I joined????????
He also said he doesn't want the FC to substantially grow and I'm like ??????? I thought the point was to have any English speaker on the server who wants an FC to join so if it happens to be like one new person or twenty, why does he care??
He went on about how he likes/wants our FC to be a nothing-happens atmosphere which feels comfortable for old people to come back or new people to jump in and I was like wtf do you think an online community is?????? And thats not fair to the current active members (which is like 5) that DO want to talk to each other?
He went on about how he just wants people to talk in the game and its like...brother...people want to play the game when they're playing the game.
I think its more that he never learned how discord operates/what its for/let alone uses it but wants to micromanage it all the same and its fucking infuriating.
